REX HUTCHISON WINNER’S CIRCLE
Rex Hutchison started building racing engines in 1940 and never looked back, maybe because he was always leading. He was family-oriented, meaning the family was part of the endeavor. Rex’s passion, commitment, and perseverance drove him to build the best engines of the time.
His company built Indy Car engines for the 500, World Land Speed Record runs, Dragsters, Drag Boats that were unbeatable, Sprint Car engines, and Stock Car engines, just to name a few disciplines.
Rex and his son, Glenn Hutchison demanded excellence from themselves and lived by the adage,“Winning Is All That Matters.”
The company has had many Hall Famers including Rex himself inducted into several Halls and his son Glenn also a well-known Hall of Fame inductee but several Hall of Fame inductees that have previously and currently work at the legendary Speed Shop.
There are others who carry on this high level of performance excellence, the uncompromising standard Rex insisted upon. It’s here, that Rex would want to honor the new racers who risk it all, because- “Winning Is All That Matters.”
WE TIP OUR HAT AND ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR UNCOMPROMISING LEVEL OF EXCELLENCE BELOW

CHAMPION AT 14
14yr old Jace Hale swipes the “The 51FIFTY Jr. Late Model Series” and wins the Championship at Madera Speedway in California.
He’s young, can drive, has experience and great equipment. As it turned out this year that Rex Hutchison Racing engine was a plus for the team. You have to have a car and you need an engine up to the task. Rex Power was with Jace giving him what he needed, when he needed it.
We’re not sure whats up next for the young gun but, be assured if he keeps going like this…………… ‘its move over Kyle Larson’ !
We want to congratulate Jace and wish him continued good success.

DEAD MANS HAND
How would you like to go to work one day and have the script flipped, all of a sudden you’re doing your job, and a surprising additional one.
Couple that with the job to run an Unlimited Outlaw Hydroplane with nearly 2,000hp of Rex Hutchison Racing Engine in a high stake drag boat race. The competitors were all piloting Unlimited Outlaw Drag Boats where the rules were thrown out the window. It’s an Old School Shoot Out, NO RULES, run what you brung !
HELLO…. come in baby !
On September 20th Glenn Hutchison arrives at the Bakersfield Ming Lake Drag Boat Races to husband 11 of his legendary company’s full tilt Drag Boat Racing Engines built by the company his legendary father founded.
Both Glenn and his father are multi–World Record Holders and many times World Champions as well as both Drag Boat Hall of Fame Inductees.
However, on this day a strange turn of events will take one of the top drag boat drivers in the nation leading the Championship, Jason Mullican out of the race. This will propel another World Champion, retired and one of the greatest drag boat racers in drag boat racing history to saddle up one of the most powerful hydroplanes in the world.
At 6:30am 21ST of September the retired many times World Champion Glenn Hutchison will get a surprise call from the current leader for the Championship in the top echelon of drag boat hydroplane racing, Jason Mullican. Jason had become extremely ill and wouldn’t be able to run the number 1 qualified Hydroplane, the extremely potent ‘Dead Mans Hand’. Jason and the team are leading the Championship fight, and a lot is on the line for the team and team owner.
Of course, Glenn will be glad to take the reins of the renowned ’Dead Mans Hand’ Hydroplane. Besides his company builds and maintains the powerful drag boat leading the Championship.
Glenn was not prepared to shoe the boat and many adjustments in the cockpit will have to be performed on the fly. The experienced crew will help him find the personal equipment required to pilot a top tier drag boat of this caliber.
Jason had put the hydroplane on the pole with a blistering time of 3.77 seconds. Now it was up to Glenn to bring it home and help the team strike another big win for the year.
Because of the stellar qualifying time and the odd number of boats ‘Dead Mans Hand’ drew a 1st round bye.
As the 2nd round ran off and ended, a slight breeze rolled in making some of the drivers a little concerned. Glenn had taken notice and was aware of the weather patterns, something he’d done for many years as a World Champion.
During the second round Glidewell, in the ‘Blown by Twins’ scooted to a 3.83 to Glenn’s 3.77 allowing him to match up with the always tough, ‘Pickle Nasty’ machine.
The 3rd round finals awaited with great anticipation by the fans on the shores and the attending pit crews witnessing this Unlimited Outlaw Race. Glenn in the ‘Dead Mans Hand’ against the always, ‘Tough Tony’ Hammons locked in the ‘Pickle Nasty’
Glenn the longtime veteran had looked the ladder over from qualifying and noted that ‘Dead Mans Hand’ had a little in the bank against ‘Nasty’. Knowing he had some bank, and the engine was capable of a little more than it qualified with, Glenn decided no matter what he was not, ‘going red’ in the lights.
As him and ‘Nasty’ disembarked, ‘Nasty’ started to yard ‘Dead Mans Hand’. Glenn with ice water for blood stayed cool and by the first buoy he’d made his move and passed ‘Nasty’ never seeing the back of ‘Nasty’ again
Glenn in ‘Dead Mans Hand’ had just laid down the fastest time of the meet with, an absolutely spectacular, 3.71 best of the meet as that vaunted Rex Power prevailed once again.
Celebration and jubilee was wide in the pits as the veteran, Glenn Hutchison had come from behind snuffing ‘Nasty’ while doing this and sitting in ‘Dead Mans Hand’ for the first time,
Glenn had also taken care of 10 other boats while jumping in the powerful and vexatious beast, ‘Dead Mans Hand’ hydroplane to win the whole enchilada.
Luck favors the prepared and never bet against a World Champion.

BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN !
Dolner’s hit pay dirt at P’ville.
The 7 EJ car was on rails all night. Josh Young was rolling from the start of the night with fast time. Josh was to continue his great night shoeing the 7 EJ by winning the heat race as the team had great anticipation that night and still wanted more.
The team was on top of the setup all night as the track was a little wet in the beginning and by the main event it was P’ville dry slick. Greg Petersen former P’ville champion with numerous wins under his belt at the track had special help from Allen Young, Josh’s father, Mark Dolner, Robert and of course, the the team principal, the beauty herself helping call the shots, Yvonne Dolner. All of the crew member were anticipating a good run as Josh had been feeling it all night.
As the cars came to the flag Josh wasted no time taking command on the first lap. The track by now was dry slick and that ‘Rex Power’ was about to become a little more tricky to drive because of that. While Josh was up on the wheel his right foot was going to be key this night to staying up front and keeping the car under him. The second-place car was trying to get around Josh high, then low for much of the race. He was trying all the grooves to no avail. It was a valiant try but Josh kept it pointed in the right direction, determined like a dog on a butcher’s bone.
Meanwhile, as the final laps were unfolding, Yvonne was horse from cheering the 7 EJ on. From the stands, Yvonne looked like she was driving the racer the last 10 laps. The team thought she was a little more tired than Josh by the time he took the double checkers proceeding in sweeping the field with that ‘Rex Power’.
The team seemed to have the field covered that night. Both Josh and Yvonne drove a hell of a race albeit Yvonne from the stands.
The win was dedicated to the legendary car owner winner of 15 championships, none other than EJ himself.
Congratulations for making it to the winners circle with uncompromising excellence demonstrated this night because,
“WINNING IS ALL THAT MATTERS.”
