WHAT YOU GONNA DO WHEN THEY COME FOR YOU
How would you like to go to work one day and have the script flipped, all of a sudden you’re doing your job, and a surprising additional one.
Couple that with the job to run an Unlimited Outlaw Hydroplane with nearly 2,000hp of Rex Hutchison Racing Engine in a high stake drag boat race. The competitors were all piloting Unlimited Outlaw Drag Boats where the rules were thrown out the window. It’s an Old School Shoot Out, NO RULES, run what you brung !
HELLO…. come in baby !
On September 20th Glenn Hutchison arrives at the Bakersfield Ming Lake Drag Boat Races to husband 11 of his legendary company’s full tilt Drag Boat Racing Engines built by the company his legendary father founded.
Both Glenn and his father are multi–World Record Holders and many times World Champions as well as both Drag Boat Hall of Fame Inductees.
However, on this day a strange turn of events will take one of the top drag boat drivers in the nation leading the Championship, Jason Mullican out of the race. This will propel another World Champion, retired and one of the greatest drag boat racers in drag boat racing history to saddle up one of the most powerful hydroplanes in the world.
At 6:30am 21ST of September the retired many times World Champion Glenn Hutchison will get a surprise call from the current leader for the Championship in the top echelon of drag boat hydroplane racing, Jason Mullican. Jason had become extremely ill and wouldn’t be able to run the number 1 qualified Hydroplane, the extremely potent ‘Dead Mans Hand’. Jason and the team are leading the Championship fight, and a lot is on the line for the team and team owner.
Of course, Glenn will be glad to take the reins of the renowned ’Dead Mans Hand’ Hydroplane. Besides his company builds and maintains the powerful drag boat leading the Championship.
Glenn was not prepared to shoe the boat and many adjustments in the cockpit will have to be performed on the fly. The experienced crew will help him find the personal equipment required to pilot a top tier drag boat of this caliber.
Jason had put the hydroplane on the pole with a blistering time of 3.77 seconds. Now it was up to Glenn to bring it home and help the team strike another big win for the year.
Because of the stellar qualifying time and the odd number of boats ‘Dead Mans Hand’ drew a 1st round bye.
As the 2nd round ran off and ended, a slight breeze rolled in making some of the drivers a little concerned. Glenn had taken notice and was aware of the weather patterns, something he’d done for many years as a World Champion.
During the second round Glidewell, in the ‘Blown by Twins’ scooted to a 3.83 to Glenn’s 3.77 allowing him to match up with the always tough, ‘Pickle Nasty’ machine.
The 3rd round finals awaited with great anticipation by the fans on the shores and the attending pit crews witnessing this Unlimited Outlaw Race. Glenn in the ‘Dead Mans Hand’ against the always, ‘Tough Tony’ Hammons locked in the ‘Pickle Nasty’
Glenn the longtime veteran had looked the ladder over from qualifying and noted that ‘Dead Mans Hand’ had a little in the bank against ‘Nasty’. Knowing he had some bank, and the engine was capable of a little more than it qualified with, Glenn decided no matter what he was not, ‘going red’ in the lights.
As him and ‘Nasty’ disembarked, ‘Nasty’ started to yard ‘Dead Mans Hand’. Glenn with ice water for blood stayed cool and by the first buoy he’d made his move and passed ‘Nasty’ never seeing the back of ‘Nasty’ again
Glenn in ‘Dead Mans Hand’ had just laid down the fastest time of the meet with, an absolutely spectacular, 3.71 best of the meet as that vaunted Rex Power prevailed once again.
Celebration and jubilee was wide in the pits as the veteran, Glenn Hutchison had come from behind snuffing ‘Nasty’ while doing this and sitting in ‘Dead Mans Hand’ for the first time,
Glenn had also taken care of 10 other boats while jumping in the powerful and vexatious beast, ‘Dead Mans Hand’ hydroplane to win the whole enchilada.
Luck favors the prepared and never bet against a World Champion.
……N U F F S A I D !
Congratulations for making it to the winners circle with uncompromising excellence demonstrated this day because,
“WINNING IS ALL THAT MATTERS.”
